Description
American or English walnut looking glass, circa 1760. This is a nicely proportioned larger than usual mirror. The mirror measures 31 ¾ inches x 19 ½ inches. The moulding surrounding the mirror is of the early cross-banded moulding with the upper radius corner. The scroll pediment is nicely detailed as well as the fretwork side decoration. The mirror frame is walnut veneered over pine and/or spruce. The backboard is inscribed in pencil “C & J Vernon, Oyster Bay”. The mirror is in overall excellent condition and there are three back braces that can be added at the purchaser’s request. Overall a beautiful mellow patina, ca. 1760.
