Description

This spontoon is constructed in two pieces with a hand forged, rolled socket. The blade originally screwed out of the socket (was threaded) in the manner of earlier spontoons. The construction of the cross guard being forged onto the blade shows signs of local blacksmith work during hard pressed time of the Revolutionary War. This spontoon came from a pioneer collector and was found here in Maine. 12 inches overall. 10 inch blade with a 4 inch cross guard.
