Description
This is a nice example of the French Artillery Saber that was copied for the US Light Artillery Saber, Model 1840. This model was imported into the US before and during the Civil War. It is in excellent condition with a nice patina on the hilt and the leather wrap grip retains the twisted brass wire. The blade is in excellent condition retaining a lot of the original polish with some minor discoloration on the ricasso and towards the end of the blade. The sheath has a nice smooth brown patina. The sword is 37 inches overall and the blade is 31 ½ inches long. The top of the blade is dated 1848 with “Crown G”
and “F W”.
