Description
Extremely rare pewter chalice from the Medieval period. Most chalices from this period were buried with priests and have been excavated.The chalice is 8 1/2 inches tall, the bowl is 5 1/8 inches in diameter and the base is 5 1/2 inches in diameter. The rim of the bowl appears to have a rolled edge for reinforcement and the base appears to have had a plate added at a later time.There is an old repair to the inside of the bowl where it joins the shaft. An old label remains on the bottom.
When this chalice was found 15 years ago photos were sent for authentication to an auction gallery in London with a reply that it is from the14th century and its value was estimated at $12,000.00. Authenticity guaranteed as represented.
