Description
Navy or artillery officer’s sword with solid counter-guard and helmet pommel. This sword fits the regulation of either. This sword came from a naval collector and this was his representative sword for the 1830-1840 period. The counter-guard has the American eagle and the quillon terminates in an eagle’s head. The grips consist of two panels of mother of pearl deeply grooved to hold the wire wrap. The 32 ¾ inch straight single edge blade has a fuller that runs to the ricasso. The blade is blued for the first eighteen inches and contains panels of foliate design and military trophies. The blade is in excellent condition and has most of its original polish with some scattered areas of grey and a few spots of surface rust.
