This is a rare candlestick. It is made of pinkish bronze and very thinly turned. It is in excellent condition for a candlestick dating to 1650. The color is almost like copper.
This pair of Sheffield plate candlesticks is one of four known pair ordered by George Washington in 1786. The candlesticks were sold at Anderson Galleries, later became Sotheby’s in 1917.
