American Revolution

Just before the infamous American Revolution, many Americans considered themselves British citizens. The early people regarded themselves as an equal to the counterparts of their Mother Land. However, a time came when Parliament changed its perspective. Despite various political solutions, it became clear that they were not prepared to deal with the colonies as equals. As they began to see peasant farmers occupying British territory, the disaster that followed seemed to be the only choice to solve a rebellion inflicted by different political dimensions. From 1775 to 1783, the American Revolution or also known as the Revolutionary War took place.

From a Civil War to an International Conflict

In April 1775, a series of unpremeditated fighting between colonial militiamen in Lexington and Concord and British troops had kicked off the civil war. The following summer, the armed conflict rose into a full-scale war, the colonists fighting for their independence. The growing tensions between the colonial government and the residents of Great Britain’s 13 North American colonies had attracted international attention which resulted in France joining the revolution in 1778. The colonists gained help from the French army, and in 1781, the British surrendered at Yorktown, Virginia. The Americans won their independence and their connections to the British crown ended.
