Description
This style socket bayonet is often referred to as a hunting bayonet but obviously served as military. This bayonet is of imperial quality with deeply chiseled relief decoration. Usually these bayonets are found with simple engraving. The bayonet is made of steel with silver and brass overlay on the socket. The attachment of the blade to the socket is in the form of a human hand. Beautiful detail. Overall excellent condition with exception of one corrosion spot, one-half inch x one inch at the bottom of the blade. Probably Italian, possibly Sardinia. Overall length is 14 ¼ inches with a 10 inch blade x 1 ¾ inches wide.
